She Is Her Father's Daughter

I created a graphic narrative about the colonization of my father’s paternal side of the family. This took a lot of emotional and spiritual energy to work on due to the inter-generational trauma that has been passed down. I had to dig deep on my father’s family history and I reached out to relatives whom I’ve never met. It was very painful to do this project; I even visited my great grandmother’s grave for the first time. I spent days researching historical findings such as newspaper clippings and Indian census reports. Every piece in the pages has some sort of historical or symbolic significance on my father’s side of the family. Creating this graphic narrative has been very healing for me, although the pain that has been passed down from my ancestors still needs to be healed. There are still questions that need to be answered and I am coming to terms with the fact that I may never receive answers.
